MARQUETTE -- Some of us may have been enjoying the mild weather, but the unseasonable warm temperatures present a danger to the upcoming sled dog races.

Race organizers say the trails within the woods remain in good shape, but the lack of snow is problematic in the Marquette city area.  The Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association is working on contingency plans if there is insufficient snow in the city.

There is some good news concerning one event.  The Jack Pine 30 is still on, as they have secured the minimum 10 racers.

Despite the weather, organizers say they feel as prepared as ever for the races.

"I honestly feel along with many members of the board, that this is probably the most prepared year we have had, ever," said UPSDA President Pat Torreano.  "And all we do is pray for snow."

The UP 200 and the Midnight Run begin February 17, with the Jack Pine 30 starting on February 18.
