HARVEY -- The race for the State House of Representatives 109th District seat got a little more crowded on Monday.

Burt Township Supervisor Jack Hubbard officially announced his candidacy for the 109th seat Monday morning at Wahlstrom's restaurant in Harvey.  During his announcement, the Republican candidate highlighted his work on the Grand Marais Breakwall.

Originally from Marquette, Hubbard says he will campaign heavily in Marquette County up until the primary in August.  He says he is not deterred by the fact that the seat has predominately been held by a Democrat over the years.

"The worst thing in the world you can do is to tell me I can't do something," said Hubbard.  "Now is the time to make some changes; the state is changing around, it's moving ahead.  We need to continue in that direction, and I feel I am very qualified for that position."

The general election to replace the outgoing House Representative Steve Lindberg will be held this fall.
