Snyder said he agrees with the regulations in place and hopes that the companies will work with the state to maintain a safe environment while creating more jobs.

MARQUETTE -- During his U.P. visit, Gov. Rick Snyder sat down with TV6 in Marquette to answer wide-ranging questions.

In light of a few different mine projects developing in the Upper Peninsula, we asked the governor about his stance on regulating mining. Snyder said he agrees with the regulations in place and hopes that the companies will work with the state to maintain a safe environment while creating more jobs.

"We've got multiple projects that are potentially going forward working within those regulations," said Snyder.

"We're working hard to really make sure we're partnering with people interested in those projects to move them ahead as quickly as possible while making sure we're following those regulations because it's about partnership and long-term care to create jobs and be responsible to our kids."

Rio Tinto's Kennecott Eagle Mine is projecting the start of operation in 2013.
