MARQUETTE -- Father Marquette Middle School students hit the slopes Thursday in celebration of Catholic Schools Week.

The students have been taking a different approach to their studies by gathering as a group and taking a break from homework to celebrate their faith.

As part of the celebration, students had a group prayer and went skiing at Marquette Mountain.

"Well, we're finishing up tomorrow with an all school mass at St. Peter's Cathedral, and we are going to be ending in a pajama and movie fun day.  Throughout the week prior, we've been celebrating with an hour of prayer. We have also listened to Gregorian chant each day, which celebrates the history of our faith," said middle school teacher, Lindsay Crum.

Students celebrating Catholic Schools Week focus on three areas:  faith, service and academics.

All of the extra activities are in addition to regular class which is still held all week long.
