More than 60 people signed up

GLADSTONE -- The Rapid River Relic riders are pushing forward on their annual Relic Ride despite very little snow and a decrease in registration.

More than 60 people signed up. The Rapid River Snowmobiling Club started out by going across the Bluff to Gladstone to the Kipling bar. But the event is also a way to give back. Money raised is donated to the local school districts for scholarships, and the collected canned goods go to St. Vincent's in Gladstone.

As for the snowmobiles, they ranged from modern models to ones that dated back from the 1950s.

"The people just enjoy telling old stories about when they had these old sleds and how they used to work on them and so forth," said Vice President Scott Nieuwenkamp.

There'll be a show Saturday. Snowmobiling enthusiasts can register their sleds between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday.
