REPUBLIC -- The Chief Lake Wilderness Youth Camp is hosting its first ice fishing event.

Youth on Ice is set for all day on January 28.  Anyone is invited to come, and the youth camp is expecting 100 participants.

The event is totally non-competitive, and people will be taught the proper techniques when it comes to the sport.  Everything from drilling holes, what kind of bait to use, and how to handle your catches, will be reviewed.

"We are so excited about this upcoming event," said camp co-founder Steve Nesbitt.  "It showcases one of our many, many programs for the kids, and the response so far has just been phenomenal.  We're expecting a big turnout, and I'm so looking forward to it and seeing these kids have fun on the ice."

The camp is in its second phase of construction and is expected to be done by next fall.
