IRON MOUNTAIN -- Parking can be a bit of an issue in Iron Mountain. There is no parking on Main Street, and sometimes the parking lots can fill up quickly.
Trying to find a parking spot for a place like the Salon 323 can be a little tricky.
In order to get to some of the businesses on Main Street, since there's no parking in front of the businesses on Main Street, you're going to have to maneuver behind some of the buildings and try to find a parking lot like this and attempt to get a spot there.
Main Street coordinator Jonathan Ringle says that the number of parking spots available, however, is not the problem.
“We are not lacking parking; it's the signage of the parking,” says Jonathan Ringle. “Where are we allowed to park? Where is two-hour parking? Where is all day parking? Where should people be located?"
This parking lot behind Salon 323 has a two-hour limit, however, it is rarely, if ever, enforced. This can force people trying to visit some of the local shops to park farther away. It sometimes also serves as a site where the town will dump snow, making the parking problem even more complicated.
“They plow a large snow bank out there that takes up multiple spots, so our clients have nowhere to park,” says Bobbi Jo Peterson.
So what can be done?
Ringle suggests that parking meters would create more traffic turnover. He also thinks that better enforcement of posted parking limitations could also help.
