MARQUETTE -- A trip to Japan is what brought some locals together at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

On Saturday, the Sister City Delegation Committee reflected back on their journey to the delegation's sister city Higashiomi, Japan. Last October, ten delegates traveled overseas and spent ten days with host families, learning about Japanese culture and sharing ideas of economic growth.

The delegation was founded more than 40 years ago with the intent to heal relations between the countries after World War II.

"We're trading ideas and customs that are helpful and useful, but really it's about love and getting to know another culture and other group of people and your host family, especially," said Andrew Bek, delegation leader.

The committee also welcomes volunteers to serve as host families for the sister city delegates.
