Anti abortion rally
ESCANABA -- Abortion has been legal in the United States for almost 40 years, and Friday evening, buses from Marquette and Menominee stopped at Holy Name School in Escanaba to pick up peaceful protestors who are headed to Washington, D.C.
This coming Monday, participants from the U.P. will protest abortion for the Roe v. Wade anniversary. They'll join hundreds or thousands of others for the March for Life on the Washington Mall in defense of the unborn.
According to the Michigan Department of Community Health survey from 2009, Marquette County had 30 cases of induced abortions. Delta County had 12 cases.
"I believe in a person's potential," said March for Life participant Ryan Hansen. "Like myself, when I was in high school, I had potential to go to college. Unless somebody tried to stop me, that was going to happen. And I believe the human embryo has potential to be a person if they're allowed to mature and develop. And abortion stops that from happening."
Holy Name students will also participate in a gym rally as well as a march around the school on Monday.
