MARQUETTE -- The "Warmth on the Ice" event took place Wednesday night during the Marquette Redmen and Electricians hockey game.
During the intermission between the first and second periods, the crowd tossed new hats and gloves onto the ice.
Rosemary Smith of the Marquette Rotary Club was pleased with the turnout and says these winter items fill a need in Marquette.
"Marquette Area Public Schools came to our Rotary Club and said we have a need for hats, mittens and gloves for the kids for recess, and from what I saw, there were just bags and bags full of hats, mittens and gloves donated tonight," said Smith.
Donations collected at Wednesday night's event will go to children in the area who need warm winter gear during these cold months.
