NEGAUNEE -- Michael Hauswirth, better known as Michael Hozz on stage, is a musician of many talents. Though now a Negaunee resident, Hozz comes from Houghton and performs across much of the U.P. Hozz has performed with Uncle Ugly and Slave to Gravity in the past but will be performing next week with his acoustic band called Hozz which also features percussionist Dan Stevens.
Hozz records and produces all of his own music. He plays drums, keyboard, and bass but plays mostly acoustic guitar when live. He's spent his lifetime performing music after being introduced to music by his grandfather.
"I believe I was about four when I picked up the guitar, and it just went from there to other things. Everything interests me that makes noise," said Hozz with a laugh.
After more than 30 years of performing on stage, Hozz has finally released his first solo album. The album, entitled "Turn Around" after one of its ten tracks, is a collection of some of his best works.
"You know, I've got a lot of songs that I feel really strongly about. It was hard picking 10 out of 500," Hozz said.
The album can be purchased online or at local stores, like Good Times Music in Houghton, any Snyder's Drug Stores, or Jim's Music in Marquette. Hozz will be promoting the CD's release with a party next week. The performance will be at the My Place Lounge in the Marquette Holiday Inn next Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.
