Volunteers aid skiers with difficulty standing or walking; sit-skis are also available to those who need them
MARQUETTE TWP. -- If you love skiing but can't because of a physical disability, all hope is not lost.
The Superior Alliance for Independent Living, or SAIL, is an organization devoted to helping those with physical disabilities. SAIL held a free demo day Saturday at the Forestville Noquemanon Trail Head for their adaptive ski program. The cross country ski program is eight weeks long and starts next week. Volunteers aid skiers with difficulty standing or walking. Sit-skis are also available to those who need them.
The adaptive ski program is one of many offered by SAIL.
"We have all sorts of different programs for people with disabilities, and this is one of our free demo days for the adaptive ski program," said Sarah Peura, a member of SAIL.
