MARQUETTE -- The announcement of a joint venture with Wolverine Power Cooperative has given Presque Isle Power Plant renewed energy.

The announcement comes in the wake of a federal court's decision to put a hold on air quality regulations set by the Environmental Protection Agency.  Those regulations could have potentially shut down we energies' Presque Isle Power Plant in Marquette.

According to the LSCP, the partnership between we energies and Wolverine Power will help Presque Isle power meet the EPA standards.

LSCP says this not only saves jobs, but has an environmental impact as well.

"The northern lower Michigan and upper Michigan have a lot of similarities," said LSCP CEO Amy Clickner.  "And one of them is the need for additional reliability and energy.  That's why marrying these two companies and what they both can bring to the table is so important.  It will benefit northern lower as much as upper, so both companies gain."

Clickner says the next couple of months will be critical, as both companies assess the viability of the joint venture.
