Restaurants in Marquette are offering deals by the slice
MARQUETTE -- It's a celebration unknown to many and chefs everywhere say, 'Take advantage of it.'
It's National Pizza Week and in its honor, some restaurants in Marquette are offering specials by the slice. At Vango's in Marquette, they've been making them for decades. Tuesday's pie had a Mexican theme: ground beef, olives, cheese and tomatoes.
We can all agree pizza has evolved over the years. Almost any food item can be a topping and the more the merrier. But experts said the secret of a delicious slice is in the dough.
"What makes a good dough is having it fresh, making sure that you proof it correctly, and that it's thin and crispy," Michele Butler, one of the owners at Vango's, said.
"It's a well-rounded meal. If you come in and buy a house special pizza, for example, you're getting your meat, you're getting your protein, you're getting your vegetables, you're getting your carbs. It's an all-in-one meal, and I don't know if people really look at it that way but it is."
Vango's is offering specials on different types of pizza each day this week.
