MARQUETTE -- An announcement was made on Tuesday morning that Marquette General Hospital is exploring partnership opportunities.
The MGH Board of Directors is continuing to explore a partnership with health care organizations outside the Upper Peninsula. According to the hospital, they currently have the necessary funds to sustain its operations as they currently stand, but the board says an infusion of capital from an outside source is needed to expand their services.
"It could be anywhere between a joint venture, or it could be a more formal relationship," said MGH Chairman, Brad Cory. "And we're in the process of that exploration as we speak."
The hospital's doctors and nurses could also benefit from a partnership through new and expanded service lines and mentoring and training programs.
The hospital says it will announce its partner and the amount of capital in the coming weeks.
It's estimated that $80 million is lost each year from patients seeking treatment outside of the U.P.
