He was put on trial twice for arson and murder, but never convicted
HOUGHTON -- Ronald Kemppainen has been released from prison. The 49-year-old Hancock man was freed January 3 after serving the remainder of a home invasion sentence for a parole violation.
Kemppainen was charged with arson and murder in an apartment fire that killed four people in Hancock in 2009. He was on parole at the time.
The case was eventually dropped last January after two trials ended with a hung jury.
Kemppainen was put back in prison earlier this year after pleading guilty to a parole violation related to the night of the deadly fire.
