The Gogebic County Fair Board is holding the snowmobile race in Ironwood this weekend
GOGEBIC CO. -- They say it's a trip back to the 'Glory Days' of snowmobile racing.
The Gogebic County Fair Board is holding the Pro Vintage Olympus snowmobile race in Ironwood this weekend. About 200 individuals raced single to triple cylinder 1970 to 1985 snowmobile models. They rounded the legendary oval half-mile track which allows racers to reach very high speeds.
Racers said the feeling is like sky diving.
"It's a great track to run on its half-mile track. The guys like the speeds; we can hit about, I'd say 95 miles per hour in our big mod classes," said Kurt Krueger of Pro Vintage Racing.
Racers came from several surrounding states and even Canada. The event will continue on Sunday.
