IRON COUNTY -- The Iron County Sheriff's Department received a call of a strong odor on US-2 near Oss Road in Crystal Falls Township around 5:53 a.m. Friday.

Local pipe line companies were contact and advised of a possible gas leak.  It was later determined that there wasn't a gas leak, but instead a release of an odorant that is placed in the gas by DTE/MichCon for gas detection.

"The odorant poses no threat to public safety and will dissipate over time," said Iron County Sheriff Valesano.

US-2 was closed during the investigation.
