Volunteers served around 200: dine-in, delivery and take out
ISHPEMING -- Community members gathered at the Ishpeming Elks Lodge for a Christmas Day meal on Sunday.
The event is sponsored by the Bell Foundation each year. Volunteers served around 200 dine-in, delivery and take out meals. Holiday favorites like turkey, ham, stuffing and pie were served. The organization is in its fifth year of coordinating the event.
Volunteers said it reflects on what Christmas is really about.
"I think we need to get back to what the meaning of Christmas is," said Dawn Lambert-Sayring, exalted ruler of the Ishpeming Elks Lodge. "It's not the commercialized, it's about being together with friends and family and helping out a neighbor or getting to know a new neighbor at one of these events. I think it's wonderful."
The club served Christmas meals until 2 p.m.
