CALUMET -- The New Beginnings Angel Mission Free Store in Calumet offered a fun shopping day for kids. Parents were not allowed inside as kids got the chance to pick gifts for mom and dad.

As the kids roamed around the store, volunteers helped them sort through some of the soon-to-be presents to make it easier for the kids to decide. Some of the items up for grabs were shaving cream, jewelry, tools, and clothing.

"Today is Children's Day, and I think it's very important because I hope children will learn the value of giving a gift, not only getting a gift," said Angel Mission Director Sandra Godell.

Once the kids picked out the items they liked, volunteers were on hand to wrap the items and personalize them with a note and a colorful bow to match.

Many of the items were collected throughout the year while other items were donated.

During this time of year, the store also has what's called an Angel Tree, and people can come in and buy specific items for children in need during the holiday season.
