ESCANABA -- They're in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but reports say NewPage paper is giving out bonuses to company executives.

One of those NewPage plants is located in Escanaba.

Some 1.5 million dollars is being paid out to 15 NewPage executives.

According to the Cumberland Times News, the federal bankruptcy court has approved the plan.

Contractors are owed anywhere from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. They'll likely be paid just a fraction of what they're owed.

NewPage has asked the court to seal the bonus payment documents because they say personal information should be protected from the public.
