GRAND MARAIS -- After months of discussion with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Grand Marais officially has the green light to build their brand new breakwater.

The little township that could" just received the permit from the Army Corps Thursday afternoon.  That means the bidding process will begin in about a month, and construction should start next spring.

It's expected to take about three months to complete the 1,500 foot breakwater.

All of the funding is already in place with $5 million from the state, $200,000 in community funds, including $40,000 won in a Reader's Digest competition last year.
