He was ordered to pay $600

MARQUETTE (AP) -- A Michigan National Guard member who served in Iraq has been fined $600 for selling a night-vision gun scope on eBay.

Gerald Casperson of Menominee pleaded guilty in September to selling government property.  Records show he was sentenced Friday to cash penalties, but no jail time, in federal court in Marquette.

The government says the 26-year-old Casperson was not supposed to bring the Raptor night scope back to the U.S. in 2006.  He received $1,200 after selling it to someone in Kentucky.

The government says Casperson knew the Raptor is considered a "sensitive" item in the U.S. military.  One of Casperson's leaders asked a judge for leniency, saying he was an "exemplary soldier" in Iraq.
