MARQUETTE -- Crowd's gathered in Marquette on Thursday outside Republican Congressman Dan Benishek's office.
At the end of this December, federally-funded unemployment benefits will expire for many Americans. Congress will vote before then on whether or not to extend benefits.
An informational protest was held to try and sway Benishek to vote yes to expand the benefits.
"The people that are here today, many of them are unemployed," said Protestor Dorothy Johnson. "A lot of them are construction trades people. And we've come together today to let our voices be heard, and let him know that the people of the 1st District want an extension of unemployment benefits."
Reports indicate that the vote will affect 66,000 to 160,000 unemployed Michigan residents. Benishek's official stance as of Thursday is unknown.
