MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University was a festive place to be Wednesday night.  The annual "Lighting up the Holidays" event provided families and friends with an evening of Christmas-themed fun.

The bookstore continued its holiday sale, offering many children's books.  Spectators enjoyed Christmas caroling and dance performances, and there were long lines for the horse-drawn hayrides across campus.

And nothing was more popular than pictures with Santa Claus.

"My favorite part would probably have to be just enjoying time with my family and friends, hanging around with Santa, and the sleigh ride," said Lauren Wilkinson about being part of the event.

Attending Lighting up the Holidays has become a tradition for many families.

If you missed it this year, Santa plans on coming back to NMU again next year.
