NEGAUNEE -- Wednesday marked the 70th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor.

The VFW Post 3165 in Negaunee hosted a ceremony Wednesday afternoon honoring those who lost their lives and one very special survivor.

Ninety-two-year-old Merton Holman is one of eleven Pearl Harbor survivors in Marquette County and the only one still alive today.

The Negaunee native remembers the Japanese attacks that took place 70 years ago as if they were yesterday.

"Don't seem very long ago, it's still all right here, it's in you all the time," said Holman.

Holman found refuge in a nearby river bed ditch.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Merton spent five years in the service, two as a plane spotter at a submarine base and three as a switchboard operator at Ford Island.
