MARQUETTE -- It's a holiday for many Marquette skiers and snowboarders, opening day at Marquette Mountain.

Although the weather hasn't been ideal for snow making in the past month, things have started to shape up in the past few days.

The snow guns perform best in colder temperatures, so they've been working full force on Friday.  Currently the bunny hill and Snowfield runs are open, with additional runs planned to open as soon as possible.

"The weather has finally switched for us, and it is getting colder and staying colder," said Guest Relations Manager Jesie Melchiori.  "So now that it's colder during the day and at night, the snow guns will stay on until we get completely open."

There are some changes in store for the mountain this year.  Hours of operation will now be Monday through Thursday noon to 8:30 p.m., and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

They're expecting a busy opening day and opening weekend.
