MARQUETTE -- A friendly competitive edge to Marquette Senior High School's Canathon drive effort this year yielded overwhelming results.

The National Honor Society hosted the drive, offering prizes to the homeroom classes bringing in the most canned goods.

Organizers estimate the winning class brought in more than 800 cans.  In all, the school ended up with about 6,000 cans, double the amount they collected last year.

"It's extraordinary, it's really rewarding to have so many things piled up for us, and all of this will be put to good use, so it's really good," said MSHS senior, Tristan Luoma.

Marquette Senior High School's National Honor Society students were a big part of the process. They stayed after school the last few days, collecting the cans and loading trucks.
