Each holiday season, there are children all around the country who don't receive Christmas presents.

The Toys for Tots Foundation does their best every year to try to change that.

Marquette's Toys for Tots program began in October, and they provide drop-off boxes throughout the city.  The last two years have proved successful for the organization, increasing toys by 10 percent each year.

"We're getting more and more support, bigger gifts for children, and providing more gifts per child. It's really working out to be a good thing," said Robert Bannan, Toys for Tots coordinator.

The Toys for Tots website says that throughout the program, the project has helped donate over 81 million toys to children, and the drop-off boxes make it easy for people to share the Christmas spirit.

At Northern Michigan Bank, they're also getting into the holiday spirit by showcasing a Toys for Tots box. The bank also has a "mitten tree" where people can donate new winter gear for the winter season.

"If more people did Toys for Tots, we'd get a lot more businesses that can really turn into a big avenue in the community to help the kids around here," said E.J. Kostreva, President of Northern District.

In addition to toys, the program is asking for book bags, movies, and sporting goods.

The Toys for Tots Foundation has made the season brighter for children and their families in Marquette for 22 years.
