ESCANABA TOWNSHIP -- Things are moving forward for a controversial ice track in Escanaba Township.

A meeting was held at the Wells Lions Club to discuss next year's race plans.  It's a 16-acre ice racing track for racing ATVs and motorcycles.  The club members and track supporters planned for the first race, set for January 7.

The track was under fire after Escanaba Township officials said they needed a permit from the property owners, the Barrons.  Officials said they haven't received an application, but the family said they already got the only permit they needed to excavate the property.

"We had to secure an earth moving permit from the Soil Conservation District here in Delta County," said promoter and owner Bob Barron.  "So that's all we've really needed for this whole project."

Organizers anticipate a full season of nine races.  Once the weather gets colder, they'll flood and build the ice track.
