MUNISING TOWNSHIP -- A Munising man is in stable condition on Monday after sustaining life threatening injuries from an explosion inside his home.

Police say that last Friday afternoon, Kenneth Rieli, 61, inadvertently caused the explosion when he was experimenting in his home workshop.

Rieli, a hobby inventor and chemist, was taken to Marquette General Hospital where he underwent trauma surgery.

Rieli's granddaughter,19-year-old Elizabeth Lester, was also home and suffered minor injuries.

Detectives from the Michigan State Police, FBI and ATF are currently investigating the incident.
