ISHPEMING -- Ishpeming residents should be aware of a recent phone scam involving Medicare account numbers.

Ishpeming police received a call Wednesday from a resident that said she just received a scam phone call.

The caller said he was with the National Medical office and wanted to identify her address and Medicare account number.

Police say this is not a new scam and want to remind residents, especially elderly social security recipients never to give out their information over the phone.

"Bank accounts, social security numbers, date of birth, don't accept any money unless they know exactly where it's coming from and, you know, just be weary because these scams are out there," said Ishpeming Police Officer, Brandon Nylander.

If you receive a call that you feel is suspicious hang up and contact your local police immediately.
