MARQUETTE -- The man accused of robbing the Northern Michigan Bank in Harvey was in federal court Tuesday.

Justin Dee McLean appeared before Judge Timothy Greely on a single count of armed robbery.  McLean faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

McLean was picked up in Wyoming last month on a warrant for felony absconding, issued out of downstate Cheboygan, and extradited back to Michigan.

Public defender Paul Peterson informed Judge Greely his client intended to stand mute on his charge, and then Greely entered a not guilty plea on McLean's behalf.

"He's going to be detained at the moment," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Maarten Vermaat. "He can make a motion to the court to be released pending trial; that's up to him, but as of right now, the court's order is that he's going to be detained pending trial."

McLean has a pretrial hearing for December 13, and his trial is set to begin on January 3 of next year.
