HOUGHTON -- Suicide is a very sensitive topic many people tend not to discuss.  Each year we lose about 36,000 people to suicide in the United States.

Dial Help is a non-profit crisis intervention and suicide prevention agency in the Keweenaw, offering assistance to individuals in need.

Saturday is the 13th annual International Survivors of Suicide Day.

"The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention produces a special simulcast event each year for this event, and it includes survivors who address some of the questions that newly bereaved survivors might have," said Dial Help Manager Kevin Weir.

If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, you're urged to call (906) 482-9077.

Saturday's event is free and will be held in the city council chambers of the City Center in downtown Houghton at noon.
