MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Ski season is just around the corner, and snow guns are working hard to cover local ski slopes.
At Marquette Mountain Ski Area, 25 machines have been generating snow for the last two days.
The average machine shoots out 60 gallons of water per minute. Last year, they started covering the slopes a few days earlier, although weather conditions were similar.
With temperatures above 25 degrees, the staff says it makes it harder to produce and maintain snow on the ground.
Two feet of manmade snow makes it easier to maintain the hills.
"Once there is a base on it, it keeps natural snow better because it's a refrigerant from the ground temperatures and the water and it just allows us to groom and maintain the hill better," said Marquette Mountain GM Vern Barber.
If temperatures remain low, the staff expects to open its doors on Black Friday.
