MARQUETTE -- The Marquette City Commission held its first meeting since the elections and welcomed a new committee Monday night.

The City Clerk swore in three returning commissioners and reelected Mayor John Kivela and Mayor Pro-tem John DePetro.

In addition to the reappointments, the clerk swore in and welcomed the new Marquette Charter Commission.  The goal of the Charter Commission is to revise the city's 50-year-old charter into language and ideas today's residents can understand.

"Over the next year, roughly, we'll be meeting monthly, if not more, and to really dig into the charter and get it corrected, fixed to where it meets today's standards and complies with today's state laws," said newly-elected Charter Commissioner, Tom Tourville.

The next City Commission meeting is set for November 28.
