WASHINGTON D.C. -- Sixty-one years later, a Korean War veteran has been awarded the Bronze Star for saving the life of an Iron Mountain man during the war.

During a ceremony in Washington, D.C. Monday, Congressman Dan Benishek, along with Dale Larsen of Iron Mountain, awarded the Bronze Star to James Rasnake.

Larsen and Rasnake were fighting side-by-side when Larsen got shot in the leg.  As an enemy soldier closed in the for the kill with a raised bayonet, Rasnake shot and killed him and pulled Larsen to safety.

Larsen was awarded the Silver Star, but Rasnake's actions have gone unrecognized until now.
