NMU students volunteer their time in engaging young readers
MARQUETTE -- A story hour at Peter White Public Library in Marquette gets children interested in reading. The event is held every other Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Children's Area at the library.
NMU students volunteer their time as part of a program that teaches children communication and reading skills. Arts and crafts and a little playtime is, of course, also included. Today's theme was Thanksgiving.
"We're part of NISLA, which is a group at Northern Michigan University and story hour helps enforce reading in children because it's a big part of their learning experience, and we do fun crafts and they have a great time," said story hour chairwoman, Jess Krobe.
The theme of their next session is Gingerman.
