More than 100 eager children showed up at the safety course at Marquette Mountain Ski Lodge

MARQUETTE -- Young skiers had the chance to learn the safety of the slopes Saturday at the Marquette Mountain Ski Lodge.  Children ages 13 and under showed up for the safety course.

Instructors provided useful tips on how to stay safe while skiing or snowboarding.  The Marquette General Women and Children program teams up with Kohl's each year to make the event possible, as well as provide each child a free ski or snowboarding helmet.

"There are rules of the ski hill.  Just like when you learn how to drive on the highway, there are stop signs, there are yields," said Cynthia Ampe, director of the Women and Children program.  "When a skier has the right-of-way, when you need to stop, who you need to watch out for on the hill."

The seventh annual event attracted more than 100 young skiers.
