FORSYTH TWP. -- An unnamed aviation company is one step closer to opening a facility in the U.P.  Forsyth Township board members approved a seven-year Renaissance Zone Extension in a special meeting Saturday that would give the company a tax break on the available property at Sawyer International Airport.

The company is working with the Upper Michigan Green Aviation Coalition and plans to bring a total of 148 jobs in the area over five years.

"If we can keep the jobs coming and Sawyer keeps developing, I hope in a few years that we have about four or five thousand jobs out there, so it's definitely a plus for Forsyth Township and I hope that it continues to grow," said Joe Minelli, the township's board president.

The company hopes to move in early next year after it has been approved by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.  That vote is scheduled to take place at their next meeting in December.
