MARQUETTE -- On Friday, Veteran's Day, we honor those who defend our country.
Our service members remind us every day that freedom doesn't come free. On Friday at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans, all those heroes were honored.
A special performance and several speakers, including a soldier who recently returned from his second deployment in Afghanistan, outlined the event. Dozens gathered at the chapel where the ceremony reminded everyone to remember not only those who serve and protect, but also those who fought and died for their country.
"It means a lot of different things to different people," said volunteer coordinator Ken Arsenault. "It is a way for us to say thank you, and I think the veterans appreciate that it's a way for us to acknowledge that we recognize the sacrifices they gave and the efforts they made over the years."
Veterans among the crowd saluted while Northern Michigan University's Honor Guard did a presentation of the colors.
