MARQUETTE -- Winter is on its way and some Marquette residents are already thinking about hitting the slopes at the Marquette Ski Swap.

People lined up at Lakeview Arena to register their old ski, snowboarding, and hockey equipment for Saturday's swap.  The event is a fundraiser for the Marquette Mountain Racing Team which collects 18 percent of the sale price of each item.

In addition to equipment, there will also be a raffle for new skis, a ramp, and a $200 Marquette Mountain gift certificate.

"You can buy stuff here that's a year old for a quarter of the price you pay, you know, anywhere else," said MMRT Board Member Dan Audette.  "A lot of used stuff but it's stuff, there's nothing wrong with the stuff that's coming through the doors here."

The ski swap opens at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, with 9:00 a.m. early bird tickets on sale for $10 at Downwind Sports, the Mountain Shop at Marquette Mountain, the Compound and Marquette Pediatric Dentistry.
