SAWYER -- A heart warming homecoming on Friday morning at Sawyer International Airport as the 1430th Engineer Company of the Michigan National Guard, which spent a year serving in Afghanistan, touched down.

They were greeted by family members and fellow servicemen when they landed.  Kids from the Sawyer Head Start program also came to welcome the troops, holding signs and waiving American flags.

The servicemen had spent a year serving overseas in Afghanistan.  Upon landing, the troops boarded buses and headed to Gladstone High School for a welcome home celebration.

Their motorcade was escorted by the Michigan Patriot Guard.
