ESCANABA -- Around 1:15 Friday morning, some Escanaba residents were rudely awakened by the sound of screeching tires and a car slamming into a house at 220 North 10th Street.  The accident happened after a vehicular pursuit with Escanaba Public Safety Officers.

Police believe the 2004 Pontiac Bonneville that crashed into the house had been stolen from an Escanaba residence.

No one in the home was injured.

The single male occupant was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital, and his condition is unknown at this time.  The driver's initial condition was called in as possibly intoxicated.  Police say for sure speed was a factor.

"The owner was unaware that it was gone when we made contact with them.  We'll assist MSP with their traffic crash investigation, and we'll continue the investigation on our side as to the condition of the driver," said Captain Jaime Segorski of Escanaba Public Safety.

Officials believe the driver is from out of the area.

The Michigan State Police are reconstructing the scene to discover more information about the crash.
