CRYSTAL FALLS -- Students in Crystal Falls got to take a break from their usual day of classes Thursday for something a little out of the ordinary. The U.S. Coast Guard decided to fly in and give the kids a chance to talk to the people who keep our waters safe.
Audrey Sholander is a high school student with dreams of being in the Coast Guard herself. She didn't really know exactly what she wanted to do in the Coast Guard, that is until she sat in the helicopter.
"Just being able to sit in it, I would just love to be in the air, to fly,” said Sholander.
"Usually, like when you're in the Coast Guard, you experience lots of things--like, you have to save people and stuff like that. So I mean it's fun. I think that would be pretty cool,” said Luke Wesseln.
For Ryan Allen and other members of the USCG, doing something like this is a reminder of why he joined the Coast Guard in the first place.
"It's good to see the excitement on their faces. You know, all of us fly because we love it and we have a passion for it, and over the course of years, you kind of get used to the routine. But to see their faces kind of reminds you that this is a pretty neat job we have and a neat opportunity,” said Allen.
"I think it's really cool and I'm happy that it was able to come to our little town,” said student Taylor Clark.
