MARQUETTE -- Marquette residents could get a free checkup by stopping by the YMCA Wednesday.

NMU Family Nurse Practitioner graduate students held a health fair to raise awareness about their profession and provide health services to community members.  Graduate students took vital signs, weight and height measurements and offered brief physical exams to participants.

Several other organizations were on hand to provide information such as dental care and assistance programs.

Organizers say the YMCA was the perfect place to hold a health fair.

"One of our focuses is health promotion and what better place for health promotion than here where they can exercise and get that kind of stuff going, too, so it was a great place for us to do it," said Family Nurse Practitioner, Lisa Polkky.

In addition to physicals, the nurses also provided information on any existing conditions participants may have and how to access any resources they may need.
