MARQUETTE COUNTY -- The Department of Natural Resources is asking for the public's help in identifying a recent act of moose poaching.
Last week a severed moose head was found on a rock and since then, conservation officers have been investigating. However, they have been unable to turn up any leads in the case so far.
They're asking for any tips, and they'd like to remind the public that there is a reward for any information leading to an arrest. Those who wish to give information anonymously may also be able to collect the reward.
"They can still potentially be eligible for an award even if they initially leave stuff anonymously," said Debbie Munson-Badini of the Michigan DNR. "We can still work out a reward if that does lead to an arrest."
The DNR would like to make the point that the sign left at the scene that read "Wolf's won't get this one!" is somewhat misleading because in the last 20 years, there has only been one recorded incident of wolves attacking a moose in the Upper Peninsula.
