MUNISING -- The Alger Max Prison is still locked down after violent fights Friday.
According to Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman, Russ Marlen in Lansing, three corrections officers were injured in the fights and taken to the hospital.
The three fights at the Munising prison were all between inmates; the prison staff was not targeted. The corrections officers were the only ones hurt, suffering minor injuries.
The first fight was between two inmates in the breakfast line at 6:30 Friday morning. At 8 a.m. Friday, there was a fight outside in the yard. The Alger Max staff had to fire a warning shot to gain control. This fight was among four prisoners.
The third incident was also in the yard, at 12:09 p.m. involving 10 inmates; again a warning shot was fired to bring the situation under control.
As a result of the fights, 11 inmates were placed in segregation. Due to the lockdown, inmates are being fed in their cells.
There were no problems reported Saturday at the Alger Max Prison.
