MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Cliffs Natural Resources is cleaning up a tailings spill after a pipe broke overnight on Thursday.  The pipe that broke crossed over County Road 476.

The tailings, which are ground up rock and water, came from the Empire Mine.  It is not known how much spilled.

Some of the tailings did get into a small creek, but Schweister Creek was clear.

The Department of Environmental Quality was notified of the spill.
