ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP -- Teachers in the NICE Community School District spoke out at Monday night's board meeting over failed contract negotiations.

Almost 100 people packed the Westwood High School media center to make their opinions heard.

The board listened to several teachers, parents and even a student as they called for the board to fairly negotiate the terms of the teachers' contract.  The main point of contention was over the possibility of raising health care costs for teachers despite increased enrollment and funding.

"It shows that we are serious about getting a contract signed, and I think it's important that the viewpoints were heard from all of the parents, the teachers, and the community," said Aspen Ridge teacher, Jaime Harrington.

Board President Brett French spoke after public comment stressing that the board supports the teachers, and concessions must be made.
